Galveston Island is a mere hour outside of Houston and offers you 32 miles of beautiful sandy beaches. Who wouldn’t want to spend their days relaxing on the beach a drink in hand and the sound of crashing waves in the background? It’s the dream, right? However, if lounging around your whole trip isn’t what you had in mind that’s fine because Galveston has dozens of activities for you to enjoy. Therefore, I’ve built you a three-day city guide that will allow you to explore Galveston’s history, wildlife, delicious restaurants and local sites. Let’s explore together: in some and indulge in a day of luxury!

How to spend a weekend in Galveston TX

Day 1 | Explore The City

7 AM: Wake up, head out the door and go watch the sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico.

9 AM: After you’ve taken in the beautiful sunrise head over to The Gumbo Diner for their New Orleans styled bingets.

10 AM: Now it’s time to get to know the city. What better way than by bike? Head over to Island Bicycle Company to rent a bike for the day and head out to discover the 40+ tree sculptures that Galveston Has to offer you.

1 PM: You’re bound to have worked up an appetite and there’s no better place than Farley Girls. I suggest picking up the po-boy. It’s a local favorite.

2 PM: Hop back on your bike and head over to Pier 21 where you can do some dolphin watching and catch a harbor tour.

4 PM – 6 PM: Once you’ve gotten back from your harbor tour it’s time for you to head back to Island Bike Company to drop off your bike for the day. You’ll spend the rest of the day adventuring through Galveston on their trolley system.  Use the trolley system to make your way around the city to do some exploring of your own and do a little shopping. I suggest stopping by La King’s Confectionary to pick up a little sweet and watch candy makers pull apart saltwater taffy.

7 PM: Take some time to freshen up and then head to dinner at BLVD. Seafood.  The seafood sampler is the way to go!

9 PM: After dinner head to BeerFoot for a flight (or two) of craft beers! But don’t indulge too much because tomorrow you will have a full day of adventure.

Where to stay: Avenue O Bed & Breakfast

Day 2 | Get Outdoors

7 AM: Wake up, take in the sunrise and head to the beach for an early morning yoga session with instructors from The Body Space Yoga & Pilates.

9 AM: Shower up and head to breakfast at Mosquito Café. It’s rated the number one breakfast spot in Galveston!

10 AM: Now it’s time to start your day of adventuring. Rent a jet ski from Extreme Watersports to start off your day. Spend a few hours having fun out on the water.

12 PM: You’re bound to have worked up an appetite so head over to Ocean Grille and Beach Bar. Grab some fish tacos to help you fuel up for the rest of your afternoon.

1 PM: Get ready for one of the most unique experience you may ever have. Team up with Artist Boat tours for the afternoon and kyack through Armand Bayou where you will have the chance to create a painting while you remain in your kyack. All of your art supplies is provided. (** If you don’t want to participate in the painting portion of the trip you can choose to opt in for the 2- hour kayaking tour without a painting lesson.)

5 PM: After a long day of adventuring head back to your hotel to relax a little and freshen up for dinner.

6 PM: Tryout some award winning gumbo at Little Daddy’s Gumbo Bar. I suggest trying out their “mumbo” a mixture of seafood, chicken, sausage, and prime rib.

8 PM: Spend the evening at Galveston Islands historic Pleasure Pier. There you can let loose on 16 different rides ranging from the ferries wheel, Iron Shark roller coaster, and the Gulf Glider.

Where to stay: Four Points by Sheraton Galveston

Day 3 | A Day at the Beach

9 AM: Start the day off right with a Tex-Mex breakfast at Los Compas Taqueria. Be sure to get their stuffed breakfast burrito!

10 AM: For the first part of your day head to Schlitterbahn. It’s Galveston Island top rated waterpark. Go on their Soaring Eagle Zip-Line for a view of the park or relax on an inner tube in the Torrent River.

2 PM: After you’ve left the park head to Sonny’s Place for a delicious lunch that you can’t get anywhere else. My recommendations it to try their Artery Clogger. It’s a chicken- fried steak sandwich that is topped with bacon, two kinds of cheese and ranch dressing. So basically, it’s bound to be delicious.

3 PM: Head to the beach for the rest of your afternoon. You can choose from relaxing in the sand, try out paddle boarding, feel the breeze while parasailing, or go deep sea fishing. The possibilities are endless.

7 PM: Head to the hotel to relax and freshen up before heading to dinner.

8 PM: Indulge in some delicious South American cuisine at Rudy & Paco. You must get the Ojo de Costilla, it’s a 16-ounce USDA prime filet of beef tenderloin.
